on saturday.. i was invited by ripplevox to catch a short movie screening conceptualized and filmed by youth volunteers supported by the national youth council and the health promotion board.... the leads were lawrence wong and maria evelyn ng.. you might've seen evelyn in moulmein high... evelyn was playing the character of this girl who left lawrence's character for another guy and then came back with the knowledge that she has AIDS... she decided to spend her last days with lawrence's character and just purely embraced life.. what i liked about the character was that she kept on smiling even though she was really ill... after the short movie.. there were a few clips of real interviews with youths who have the disease.. and these pple are shockingly around our age or even younger.. it's really scary to think that you are so young and is suffering from such a terminal disease.. scary as it is... i truly believe that we still do lack the awareness... only a minority truly understand what the disease is about although it has been around in singapore for so long... AIDS/HIV is not an "african" disease neither is it an "STD".... there are other ways whereby the virus can be transmitted... also... when someone has the disease.. he/she has the chance to prolong his/her life by taking medications that are readily available for those affected by the disease.. and with these medications, they can lead a normal life like anyone else... so pple... if you're sexually active.. use protection or go for an anonymous check.. and for girls.. go get a pap smear done as well if you're sexually active... the number of women in singapore affected by cervical cancer is quite alarming... so anyways... learn more about the disease not only to prevent yourself from contracting it but to also understand what the AIDS patients are going through... discriminating them will do no good to you or to them... in fact.. discrimination shldn't be something that you'd even want to think about doing at all, whether to AIDS patients or to anyone...
before the movie.. i was with shiyan and phua at the nyc building... we were there for the SHINE 08 volunteers tea session.. they were showing us what's gonna happen with SHINE 08 and what we can do and all... i, together with the 2 opted for the sports interest group and we intend to set up a paintball clinic and tournament... by the way... paintball novice series on 30th mar at red dynasty field.. more info on http://weplaypaintball.com... i is gonna be rah-rah girl that day and also videocamera woman.. cos QUEK JJ IS PLAYING! last time he rah rah for my dragonboat races... now my turn to rah rah for him..
so i went down to the field today to talk to the big bosses of paintball.. the president of the paintball association.. who is a very nice lady to talk to.. yesh.. she's a LADY! GIRL POWER! WOMEN IN SPORTS ROCKS! and GO SWET! and they're very happy to collabo with nyc and all... so yey! i is happy too! paintball pictures taken by me and quek jj are over HERE.
on that saturday i was also supposed to meet up with the clan.. BUT.. yaya papaya chiku jambu didn't pick up my call... sooooooo.. i went straight for my cousin's engagement thingy after the movie... here are the pictures... spot my cupcakes!
we were bored... and coughing and sneezing at each other and other pple... and so we decided to go to vivo for a movie... but before getting to vivo... we were at marina south.. for no reason but one.... WE WERE LOST...
anyways.... we got to vivo finally... and we watched....
oooooh... i liked the movie... it's gonna be one of those movies where you'd watch on hbo over and over and over again... like dante's peak.. if you know wat i mean....
you know... all girls love flowers rite... i love flowers too... but i hate holding them... i just don't know where to place them on my arm! shld i cradle it like a baby or shld i drag it around like a rag doll? or shld i carry it like a trophy or shld i swing it over my shoulder? BUT it's looking very nice on my living room table rite now..

this is wat happens... when you don't feel good and then you start baking.. baking is a happy process and to start this happy process, you gotta be HAPPY! and what's the cause of this moodiness you might ask... I HAVE NO CLUE! and who gets to take the heat? yours truly, mr quek jj...
i have no idea wat was going on with me... one minute i wanted him there... and then when he's there, i got annoyed.. and then when he's not there i want him back.. garrrhhhh... to cut the story short... he went to st james and i sat down and calmed myself by watching frog prince... after that i bounced back to the kitchen to bake a new batch of cupcakes... and this time.. i went... VANILLA! and they rose! i show you ah...

i was soooooooo happy! yey! and then i worked on the frosting... i used buttercream frosting for this one.. contemplated on doing cream cheese since the cupcakes are gonna be mad cow sweet.. it'll be taste buds carnival if i used cream cheese frosting... but i had no cheese or udders to make that frosting... and the end product....

so.. moral of the story.. watch frog prince before baking.. need to wake up early.. so many things to do tmrw!
had majorly high fever on sunday... shivering and all... now i'm just trying to clean up the mess of the aftermath.. you know how when a tornado hits, then you have all the debris to clear and all... same like my fever... i'm still nursing the cough and stuffy nose and, the migraines decided to join in the fun as well...
last week i had a job.. HAD... yeap... past tense.. i resigned..
anyways... too many days of resting makes my brain mushy... after the asthma check up tmrw, i'm off to get some baking goods to bake me some special cupcakes on friday... can't reveal much.. it's a surprise for someone's special day..
anyways... i didn't show you my lolly cookie creations for the student council...

but i was glad that alotta pple liked the cookies very much... although i didn't manage to sell all of them at one go this time cos of the crowd.. (or lack there of)
